in blogging

As a new blogger I thought my first post should explain why I want to start blogging. I think to be honest my motivation has as much to do with keeping up with everyone else as it does with the possibility that I might actually have something useful to say. In fact I have the sneaking suspicion that I actually have no real purpose for this blog. I have not pearls of wisdom, no insights, no special information, and no real writing skills. So why blog and what will I blog about?
I guess I want to blog because other people in my family are blogging and I hate to be left out. When we all get together in a room we make a great deal of noise. Why should our collective presence on the internet be any different? But more important than trying to compete to be herd I want to write down some thoughts and ideas and to relate some interesting stories for other people to read and be entertained by. And I want to read what people think about what I write. Otherwise I might just as well write my thoughts in a journal and keep it on a shelf.
So a plan for this blog is emerging. I will use it as a sort of journal which will include funny stories of things I have witnessed and/or participated in and do not really want forgotten. It will also include ramblings about ideas which I have a need to work out. I hope to be interesting so that folks will read what I write and offer comments.

Your blog should be unique to you. Don’t worry about whatever others want to hear, or why other people are blogging. If you have a desire to share your thoughts, then share. But don’t do it because you want to fit in with your family members are doing it! You will find a purpose for your blog. Then, you will probably change it along the way. Have fun and don’t stress out about not knowing why you are blogging or what to blog about!
